Information About Graduate Studies

Each year 20 - 40% of the department's undergraduates go on to graduate school. The majority plan to pursue PhDs in Chemical Engineering, however, each year some enter Masters programs and others go to various medical schools, business schools and other graduate programs in other professional disciplines.  Applying to graduate school is something that should be discussed with student advisors and with other members of the faculty in order to identify graduate programs that are best suited to the students need.

Although some of the department's undergraduates remain at Carnegie Mellon to complete the Fifth Year Masters Program we recommend that most students interested in obtaining a PhD expand their horizons by attending graduate school at another university.
