Imperial College Feedback from CMU students
I would definitely choose to participate again without a second thought. The experience taught me to become more independent, seek my own solutions to problems, and become more aware of the global community. The quality of teaching at Imperial is excellent. Some of the professors have a real spark when they are teaching and that is contagious in the student. I have also had the opportunity to play on the women's rugby team and also volunteer as a tutor at a local girl's school. I would definitely recommend the exchange as a worthwhile endeavor for CMU students.
The most attractive parts of this exchange were initially the opportunity to study abroad in a foreign country and the job placement with Air Products. The schedule allows for an extended summer before you leave for London , in which it is possible to have quite an in-depth assignment as an intern. This proved to be a very rewarding experience, as I was able to complete a fair amount of research over the summer. While at Imperial, I have benefited from the opportunity to participate in programs such as the pilot plant that are not available to me at CMU. I have been exposed to a different style of learning that has helped me become a lot better at self-paced study. I have also had the opportunity to work with UK students in a group setting. On a more personal side, being in London has afforded me the opportunity to travel through Europe and to Ireland , learning experiences in and of themselves. I have also had the opportunity to live in London , a place filled with so many things that even after a year of living here, I still haven't seen and done everything that I wanted to. Living in halls of residence with UK students has given me an opportunity to meet people and forge new friendships easily.

My work experience at Air Products was very worthwhile. Having the opportunity to practice what I have been learning at college in a formal business environment has bettered my understanding of what a chemical engineer does. The extended summer allowed me to make many accomplishments that contributed positively to the company and made the job experience very rewarding. I met and worked with many talented people at Air Products and discovered the areas of chemical engineering that interest me most (and those that do not interest me). I feel that my experiences in London have been some of my best. Imperial College has a great chemical engineering program and so I do not feel as though I missed out on anything by not staying at Carnegie Mellon for my junior year. Adapting to the very different academic environment at Imperial College was challenging.
A benefit of studying in London was that it was easy to travel throughout the UK and Europe . During and between the college terms, I exploited the opportunity by taking small trips to over ten countries and meeting people of all different backgrounds. This made the exchange program a complete learning experience.

The greatest strength of the program seems to be the flexibility and cooperativeness of the two departments. Dr. Carabine, as well as the rest of the department's professors, has been very helpful with us. For example, he has allowed us to change are plan and has been willing to help us iron out difficulties several times. The rest of the department has been great as well. The professors all are willing to make special exceptions for us and to meet with us individually if it is necessary. One aspect of the course I particularly like is how the courses are often very clearly tied together. That makes one see the purpose of each individual course a lot better. London is an amazing city that I would love to get the opportunity to live in again. I surely would do this program again.
