Getting Started with Your ChemE User Account
For more detailed information, visit the User Accounts section.
The Chemical Engineering Department maintains a set of user accounts separate from that of the University's andrew accounts. Once you have been given a Chemical Engineering account, you will have access to many services only available through the department.
Accounts are automatically created for students when they join the department, but all other users must request an account (see User Accounts for instructions on how to request an account). Once your account has been created, your username and password will take the following form:
Username: AndrewID
Password: *cheme*FL (F and L are your first and last initials respectively)
Changing Your ChemE User Password
We strongly advice that you change your password as soon as possible once you receive your Chemical Engineering account. There are two ways to do so:
Change Your Password by Stopping by the Computer Cluster (Doherty Hall A226) Log in with your default username and password on one of the computers in the cluster. Once you have logged on hold down the ctrl-alt-delete buttons on your keyboard. A window should pop up with a "Change Password..." option. Click on this option and follow the instructions to change your password.
Change Your Password through the Remote Desktop Connection If you have access to Remote Desktop Connection (see below for details), you can also change your password by using this utility. Click on the start menu and then click on "Windows Security" (on bottom of the right panel, next to the yellow padlock icon). A window will pop up and one of the options listed will be "Change Password...". Click this option and follow the subsequent instructions to change your password.
Please Note: For security purposes, there are now restrictions on the format of passwords. All passwords must contain at least 9 characters, and have at least 3 of the following 4 features: lower case letters, upper case letters, numbers, and special characters.
Using Remote Desktop
The Remote Desktop Connection, built into most Operating Systems, allows a user to connect and use Chemical Engineering software and access his/her account from remote locations such as from a personal computer.
Instructions on how to set up and use Remote Desktop can be found here.
How to Connect and then Use a ChemE Printer
Instructions on how to connect and then print from a cluster computer or remote desktop connection can be found here.
Instructions on how to connect and then print from an office computer or personal laptop can be found here for XP machines and here for MACs.
How to Obtain Software Offered by the ChemE Department
Licensed software is available to Students, Faculty, and Staff via the Software Share. The Software share is a Windows-based share located on the department server "chemesvr2." You will need a ChemE account to access this share. Additionally, this share is only available while directly connected to the campus network.
Instructions on how to connect to the software share can be found here
